Aviators certificate No 17269 for Freydis Leaf , ( Later Freydis Sharland)
Awarded 15 February 1939 at Cambridge Aero Club. Flying a Dehaviland D.H.60 Moth with a Gipsy 1 engine
Gipsy I four-cylinder air-cooled inline engine, with 75 kW (100 HP). The powerplant went into production in 1927; fitted with it, the Moth became the “DH.60G” — though this designation was quickly extended by the more intuitive “Gipsy Moth”. With DHUK producing both the aircraft and the engine, the aircraft could be sold at low cost. The Gipsy I was not only more powerful than its Cirrus engined predecessors but also very robust, and the Gipsy Moth set a number of performance and distance records.
